NCDHHS Invests $1.9 Million in NC's Clubhouse Network to Help Improve North Carolinians' Mental Health
NCDHHS' Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services is investing $1.9 million in strengthening North Carolina’s Clubhouse network through a multi-year initiative focused on training, accreditation and modernization.
Clubhouses are non-clinical environments where people living with serious mental illness build connection, purpose and stability through shared work and community involvement.
As a psychosocial rehabilitation model, clubhouses offer a supportive level of care that is less intensive than clinical or residential treatment, yet profoundly effective in promoting long term recovery.
Current investments include:
- $1 million for facility modernization;
- $650,000 this year for a contract with Clubhouse International to support existing sites and launch 7–10 new Clubhouses over the next five years; and
- $250,000 for accreditation, specialized training, and membership dues
These investments support clubhouses across the state, including Adventure House in Shelby, Brighter House in Morganton, Charlotte Clubhouse in Charlotte, Club Horizon – Monarch in Raleigh, Club Nova in Carrboro, Connections Clubhouse in Newton, Sanctuary House in Greensboro and Threshold Clubhouse in Durham.
As part of efforts to elevate clubhouses within the continuum of mental health resources, the Kelly Crosbie, Director of NCDHHS' Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services, is conducting on site visits that highlight the strength of the clubhouse model and its role in community based recovery.
Activities include tours, discussions and shared meals that allow for meaningful engagement with members and staff. On Sept. 1, Director Crosbie visited Club Nova in Carrboro. See pictures from the visit below.
