Surgeon, Dr. Dennis Begos Explains how Gastroparesis & IBS are Often Interconnected

Dennis Begos

Dennis Begos

BOSTON, MA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Whether you call it heartburn, reflux, GERD or gastroparesis, these different names are all for one condition—burning acid in the throat and mouth and August is National Gastroparesis Awareness Month.

Dr. Dennis Begos explained, “Gastroparesis causes delayed emptying of the stomach acids and food, which creates numerous symptoms including acid reflux. Along with a great deal of discomfort and systemic health-related factors, what many people don’t realize is that acid reflux can adversely affect your lifestyle and coping abilities due to its chronic bodily distress.

“Over 20% of the population has IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), but that’s not accounting for the nearly 45 million Americans that silently suffer from the symptoms of IBS.” Dr. Begos explained, “There are two different types of this syndrome, IBS-D, and IBS-M. IBS-D is recurrent or chronic diarrhea, and IBS-M is a combination of episodic diarrhea or constipation. Both of these types of the disorder are often not diagnosed until 5-10 years after a patient’s initial experience.”

The IBS & Gastroparesis Connection
Many individuals that have gastroparesis also have IBS. These disorders seem to run parallel to each other due to their muscle contraction correlation. Dr. Dennis Begos Continued, “It is thought that the muscles lining of the intestines, esophagus, and stomach contribute to and influence both IBS and gastroparesis symptoms. Stress causes both IBS and gastroparesis to flare. Many of the foods that exacerbate both conditions are the same such as caffeine, fatty foods, spices, chocolate, dairy, and onions.”

Treatment
“Gastroparesis and IBS can be controlled with medication. Antacids work to tamp down both disorders. There are several different classes of drugs that work by helping to move food through the stomach and intestines more quickly and also by controlling the amount of acid in the stomach, which consequently alleviates the acid in the throat and mouth.” Dr. Begos explained further, “Your diet plays a huge role in the control of your gastroparesis and IBS. Lemon water reduces acid by reducing the PH levels in the stomach. The same holds true for apple cider vinegar diluted in water, but you must be certain to dilute the ratio in water to avoid excessive erosion and other acid-related issues.”

Surgeon, Dr. Dennis Begos has over 20 years of clinical experience in both academic and community hospitals and has held numerous key leadership positions, including Medical Staff President and Chair of Surgery. With his extensive experience in teaching and medical writing, Dr. Begos has been highly esteemed by his peers and patients over the past few decades, as he is recognized for his surgical expertise, innovation, and his significant experience with quality and patient safety analysis and reporting.

San Diego Based “National Autopsy Experts, LLC” Sued for Consumer Fraud and Elder Abuse

Anthony R. Martin, age 69 and disabled, paid $4,650 for "expert" autopsy services to determine his wife's "cause of death", but got nothing but lies and excuses

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — In a Complaint filed July 24, 2019, San Diego based National Autopsy Experts, LLC and its chief executive Julia McGrath are charged with violations of California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Elder Abuse, Fraud, and Breach of Contract in connection with a contract to provide expert autopsy and toxicology analysis to determine the cause of death of plaintiff’s deceased wife.

Plaintiff, the Rev. Anthony R. Martin, Sr., age 69, is retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, and suffers from multiple physical and mental disabilities. In August of 2018 he hired National Autopsy Experts, LLC for their advertised “expert” autopsy and toxicology services, but they failed to provide timely results and kept making excuses and asking for his patience. When his daughter lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in January of 2019, National Autopsy Experts, LLC responded to claim they were still working on trying to get results, and they said they had warned plaintiff it was a "high risk" matter. They never did provide any results or reports, and the Rev. Martin finally hired legal counsel to file suit in San Diego Superior Court.

The Complaint alleges that National Autopsy Experts, LLC and Julia McGrath are incompetent and knew from the outset they were unable to provide the “expert” services they contracted and promised to provide. It further alleges how, after taking inadequate tissue samples from the exhumed body of Betty Martin on August 9, 2018, National Autopsy Experts, LLC and Julia McGrath did nothing for more than 3 months, and when plaintiff began asking for the results, in December of 2018, National Autopsy Experts, LLC and Julia McGrath repeatedly lied and and attempted to hide their incompetence and deceit.

The Lawsuit is filed in California Superior Court in San Diego, and captioned “Rev. Anthony R. Martin, Sr. v. National Autopsy Experts, LLC, a California Limited Liability Company, and Julia McGrath, an individual, and DOES 1-25”. It is Case No. 37-2019-00038385, and is a matter of public record which can be viewed and downloaded from the Court’s “Register of Actions” website, at: https://roa.sdcourt.ca.gov/roa/

Ottawa arm of clinical trial helping to extend the lives of men with prostate cancer

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Recent results from the SPARTAN clinical trial have identified a drug that can help men facing prostate cancer live years longer before their disease spreads.

When prostate cancer recurs after local therapy (surgery and/or radiation), standard treatment is hormonal therapy or Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT). Eventually, many of these cancers develop resistance to hormone therapy, making them castrate-resistant and even more difficult to treat. Historically, there have been no effective therapies for castrate-resistance that could delay spread and progression of the cancer. Patients often become anxious during this time, as they and their care team must wait for the cancer to spread to bone or vital organs before offering further therapies. While there have been many advances in prostate cancer treatment over the last decade, results from the recent SPARTAN Trial show the longest period of metastasis-free survival as compared to any other available treatment.

“Metastasis accounts for a vast majority of cancer-related deaths, and so preventing or delaying the cancer from spreading obviously remains an important treatment goal,” explains Dr. Shawn Malone, Radiation Oncologist at the Ottawa Hospital and an investigator on the trial. “Until SPARTAN, there were no approved treatments for men with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) before their cancer metastasizes and it was a challenging waiting game. So the preliminary results of the trial are exciting because they are showing a noticeable improvement in the length of time these men are living metastasis-free.”

The SPARTAN study, sponsored by Aragon Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is a Phase III, double blind controlled trial and examines the effects of a drug called Apalutamide (Earleda) on patients with non-metastatic CRPC. Patients receive ADT (androgen deprivation therapy) along with either a placebo drug or a 240mg daily tablet of apalutamide.

The Ottawa Hospital hosted a local arm of the SPARTAN trial, and Dr. Shawn Malone cites investment from organizations like the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation as a significant driver for success in this and many other cancer clinical trials in the Ottawa region.

“Ottawa is home to some of the most talented researchers in the country who are working on leading-edge projects and shaping the future of cancer care,” says Linda Eagen, President & CEO of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. “Thanks to our generous donors, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation is one of the only organizations funding local cancer clinical trials, and our ongoing funding gives more families in our community access to this life saving program.”

Preliminary results of the SPARTAN study show a strong trend of improving survival for men with CRPC. The average period of metastasis-free survival was 40.5 months (3 years, 4.5 months) on the drug, vs. 16.2 months on the placebo. The secondary outcomes measured in the study (progression-free survival and time to symptomatic progression) were also significantly longer with apalutamide than with the placebo. Overall, the risk of metastasis or death was more than 70% lower for men treated with apalutamide than it was for those receiving the placebo.

“What we’re seeing is a longer period without metastasis with a drug that is very well tolerated,” explains Dr. Malone. “Participants of the trial experienced few side effects on the drug, and either delayed or prevented the onset of symptoms related to metastasis. So patients are living longer and with a very good quality of life.”

Apalutamide is approved by Health Canada and is currently part of a patient access program. It is not yet funded by Cancer Care Ontario.

The SPARTAN study also predicts the possibility that a treatment like apalutamide might be effective in treating men who already have metastatic disease, offering valuable information and hope for future studies.

Water Aerobics is a Great Low-Impact Exercise for Seniors

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Staying physically active is important at every stage of our lives, but as we grow older, it becomes especially vital. Engaging in the recommended daily amount of moderate activity (at least 30 minutes) has numerous long-term benefits, but it can also improve overall health for those with certain conditions and disabilities.

While it’s certainly no secret that physical activity is beneficial, many seniors may not know exactly what kind of exercise is most appropriate. For those that are unsure, low-impact exercise may represent the best solution. A low-impact exercise is generally defined as any workout where at least one foot stays on the floor at any given point, making it ideal for those who have limited mobility or suffer from chronic pain.

Though not as hard on the body, these exercises are not necessarily designed to be less intense, as the goal with any beneficial exercise is ultimately to elevate the heart rate. Research has indicated that low-impact exercise is as effective in reducing the risk of heart disease as high-impact. If your aging loved ones are looking to get into an exercise routine, you may want to recommend a low-impact exercise such as water aerobics and water exercise.

Many seniors give up on exercise as they age, and movement becomes more difficult because of stiffer joints or decreased flexibility. While it is mainly a strength training exercise, water aerobic exercises have some cardiovascular benefits. The water resistance helps strengthen muscles, while the buoyancy of the water reduces pain typically associated with exercising.

Water aerobics puts minimal stress on the joints and bones and conditions your whole body. It has a lower risk of injury than many other exercises. Water aerobics is a low-impact exercise that seniors are able to do year-round as long as they have pool access.

Exercise is important for everyone. Low-impact exercise is one of the best ways for seniors to not only get in their daily physical activity but also keep their heart rate up. A low-impact exercise like water aerobics can benefit your health by stretching and strengthening your muscles, reducing stress, preventing injury, and even helps to lower your blood pressure.

Strong Growth Highlights 10-Year Anniversary at Chicago-area Web Design & Marketing Agency

Idea Marketing Group celebrates 10 years in digital marketing and custom web design

Idea Marketing Group celebrates 10 years in digital marketing and custom web design

We see the same issues regardless of which industries our clients come from. They don’t have in-house marketing leadership, so they aren't using best practices in strategy, delivery, and measurement.”

— Bill Skowronski

YORKVILLE, IL, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Digital marketing has changed rapidly over the past decade, while many companies in industries like manufacturing, and the nonprofit sector have moved away from the traditional in-house marketing department. According to the Content Marketing Institute, only 8% of manufacturers had a dedicated marketing team just four years ago.

During that same time, Idea Marketing Group has built a portfolio of clients seeking strategic direction and professional services from an outsourced partner.

“Most of the companies we meet recognize they’re missing marketing opportunities, but they’re also unsure about how to invest their resources appropriately,” said Idea Marketing Group Director of Marketing, Bill Skowronski. “Often, they usually have an entry-level person managing social media or they have a slash marketer which means they’ve added marketing responsibilities to someone with another title–or several other titles.

“In both cases, we see a lot of sales messaging published at one time, then nothing for weeks or months,” Skowronski added. “As a result, their content doesn’t attract new customers or engage existing ones. And worst of all, these companies aren’t even measuring what’s working and what’s not, so they may not even recognize they have a problem.”

Founded in 2009, Idea Marketing Group built its roots in Chicago by offering web design and SEO (search engine optimization) for a variety of industries, including hospitality, events, tourism, manufacturing, and the nonprofit sector.

Now celebrating its 10th-anniversary Idea continues to excel at custom WordPress web design, which often reveals a company’s deeper marketing pains below the surface.

“We see the same issues regardless of which industries our clients come from,” Skowronski added. “If they don’t have in-house marketing leaders with a seat at the decision-making table, the organization isn’t likely using best practices in strategy, delivery, and measurement.”

A company’s website is still its primary online marketing tool. With many more digital channels available now than ever before, it makes sense that companies have partnered with Idea to guide them through marketing partnerships over the past three years.

“We obviously know how to grow a business because we’ve grown our own for a decade,” Idea Marketing Manager Steven Jack said. “We’re taking the same things that we’re applying to each client’s business and applying them to our own.”

Those marketing best practices inform how Idea approaches custom web design, content strategy, SEO, email marketing, AdWords, and social media management.

As the digital marketing industry has evolved, Idea has had to redefine what it looks like for clients.

“If we truly want to be a strategic partner, we have to drive the conversation about what marketing opportunities are available today and how companies can leverage them across all channels throughout the year,” Skowronski said. “There are a hundred ways a company can move its customers from awareness to action online. Our job is to help them focus on delivering better marketing that includes the right message at the right time and place as opposed to just more of the same marketing they’ve been doing.”

Watchdog: Multi-Million Fines Insufficient to Curb Abuse in For-Profit Behavioral Health Industry

Since 2015, CCHR has exposed alleged abuses in for-profit hospitals accused of abusing involuntarily commitment to detain patients for their insurance.

Patient abuses in the psychiatric industry require much stronger penalties than a few million dollars in fines. Increased safeguards should include jail penalties, where criminal violations found.”

— Jan Eastgate, president of CCHR International

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Universal Health Services (UHS), which owns a chain of for-profit psychiatric facilities in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, has agreed to pay $127 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) civil probe into alleged fraud. The settlement is subject to approval. [1] But Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a mental health watchdog, says the proposed settlement is insufficient to send an adequate warning to other for-profit behavioral facilities accused of patient abuse and healthcare fraud.

Media reports on the UHS payment said the company “has been dogged by the DOJ investigation into false claims allegedly submitted by its behavioral health facilities.”

For decades CCHR has investigated allegations of abuse and potential fraud in for-profit psychiatric facilities. Since 2015, over 18,000 official complaints have been filed with Federal and State authorities and legislators. A CCHR International report on the issue published in December 2018 highlighted how behavioral companies get billions of dollars in Medicaid and Medicare rebates, yet the “return” appears to be more patient abuse.

CCHR says allegations of sexual abuse of patients in the for-profit behavioral hospital industry are rife. Last year, UHS closed its Timberlawn psychiatric hospital in Texas in the wake of allegations that a 13-year-old girl was raped at the facility. [2]

Sequel Youth and Family Services is a privately-owned company that and operates in about 20 states.

Other allegations about Sequel facilities include:

• May 2019: Utah’s Department of Human Services threatened the license of a Sequel-owned facility over "understaffing” that had “negatively impacted the program's ability to address violence and sexual misconduct within the program.” In response, Sequel announced that it is closing the facility. [3]

• 2018: In Iowa, a youth advocacy group from Washington State stopped sending children to Sequel’s Clarienda Academy after concerns were raised about the use of restraints. [4]

• August 2017: A 37-year-old staff Clarienda staffer was accused of forcible sodomy and lascivious conduct with a minor. [5]

• 2016: A 40-year-old night staff member at Clarienda was arrested and charged with three felony sex charges regarding a 17-year-old student. The staffer pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and was sentenced to ten years’ probation. [6]

• July 2017: Police arrested a youth counselor with Sequel TSI of Madison, Alabama, on charges that she engaged in sex with a student under 19 years of age. She was indicted in September 2018 for sex acts involving multiple students under the age of 19. [7]

• January 2018: A 38-year-old staffer at Northern Illinois Academy was charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault on an adolescent, over whom he held a position of trust or authority. The staffer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. [8]

• August 2018: A Lakeside Academy in Kansas staffer was arrested on three counts of unlawful sexual relations involving a juvenile. [9]

• 2012: A Sequel staffer from Red Rock Canyon School (RRCS) in St. George, Utah was arrested and charged with sexually abusing three male students. [10] The staffer pleaded guilty to felony forcible sexual abuse and was sentenced to 210 days in jail and 36 months supervised probation. [11]

Recent controversy over RRCS led to Sequel’s decision to close the facility. On April 28, 2019, a two-hour riot erupted at the facility, with police, medical and SWAT forced to respond. 25 students were injured, of which five were transported to the hospital for more serious treatment, including one student who required staples to close a gash on the back of his head. [12]

CCHR says it is placing attention on Florida, where Sequel owns 10 facilities, and, in St. Petersburg and surrounding areas, offers “Foster homes” to provide services for children with severe mental health disorders/behavioral problems. [13]

Since 2015, CCHR International and its Florida Chapter have investigated and exposed alleged abuses in for-profit behavioral hospitals that have been accused of abusing the state’s Baker Act to involuntarily commit patients and detained them for their insurance.

UHS has some 16 behavioral facilities in Florida and closed its National Deaf Academy in 2014 following scrutiny of abuses reported to police, including three alleging sexual abuse. [14]

Jan Eastgate, the group’s international president, said: “Patient abuses in the psychiatric-behavioral industry require much stronger penalties than a few million dollars in fines where systemic patient abuse and/or fraud are established. Increased safeguards should include jail penalties, where criminal violations found.”

CCHR says West Palm Beach County, Florida State Attorney Dave Aronberg’s comments last year mirrors their concerns: “This is an entire industry that's been corrupted by easy money. Unscrupulous actors have taken advantage of well-intended federal law and a lack of any good law at the state level, to profit off people at the lowest stages of their lives.” [15]

CCHR calls for anyone whose mother, wife, sister or father, brother, son, child or friend has been killed or damaged by psychiatric “treatment” to fill out this form. For more information visit www.cchrflorida.org or call 727-442-8820.

About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969.

— Dr Kevin Zorn

Breast Cancer Market 2019 Global Analysis, Growth, Size, Share, Trends, Forecast to 2023

Breast Cancer -Market Demand, Growth, Opportunities and Analysis Of Top Key Player Forecast To 2023

PUNE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Breast Cancer Industry

Description

Breast cancer' defines a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast. Some breast cancers are called in situ as they are confined within the ducts (ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS) or lobules (lobular carcinoma in situ or LCIS) where they originated. Although, less commonly, breast cancer can also instigate in the stromal tissues, which includes the fatty and fibrous connective tissues of the breast. In the early stages, breast cancer may not cause any symptoms. A lump may be too small to feel or to cause any unusual changes that could be noticed on own. Specialty Pharmaceutical in US Market 2019: Global Analysis, Share, Trends, Application Analysis and Forecast To 2024

Specialty Pharmaceutical -Market Demand, Growth, Opportunities and Analysis Of Top Key Player Forecast To 2023

PUNE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Specialty Pharmaceutical Industry

Description

The US pharmaceutical market is segregated into two types of drugs majorly i.e. traditional drugs and specialty drugs. Specialty drugs in recent times have gained a strong foothold in the US and are likely to experience robust growth in the coming years, with majority of the pharmaceutical companies heading their research and development initiatives towards these drugs.

Specialty drugs are basically meant for chronic and rare disease. Drugs in this category are very expensive and difficult to administer. Also, these drugs require proper management and special handling making them costly. Since, a large part of population in the US is ageing into diseases like cancer, and other deadly diseases, the demand for specialty drugs has skyrocketed in recent times.

The US specialty pharmaceutical market has changed over the span of five years with a lot of these drugs being in their final phase of development. The US specialty pharmaceutical market is likely to grow at staggering growth rate in the coming years majorly due to factors like ageing population of the US, improving life expectancy, rise in real net per capita medicine spending on specialty drugs, and high prevalence of chronic disease in the region.

The market is also undergoing some notable changes that have been covered in the report. The market growth is likely to be hindered by abandonment rate of specialty medicines and high R&D costs. The report offers an in-depth analysis of the “The US Specialty Pharmaceutical Market: Industry Analysis & Outlook (2017-2021)”. Major pharmaceutical companies that have been covered in the report include Celgene Corporation, Gilead Sciences Inc., Amgen Inc., and AbbVie Inc.
